It may seem antithetical to my expressionist brushwork and color, but I've been studying Andrew Wyeth for several years now. I find he creeps under my skin the same way my favorites do, say, Susan Rothenberg or Per Kirkeby or Good ol' Bill deKooning. Whenever I go to the Olson House to lead a tour (a summer job of mine), he is there. So I study him. His browns and grays. His dry fields.
